Blessing for cross and weathercock

A crude cross and a weathercock crown again the parish church st. The cross and the weathercock of st. John baptist of modschiedel were blessed again from afar by the visitors and residents of the jurassic village. The slaters from the erzgebirge and the vogtland must have known how important their church is to the people of modscheid, and the carpenters from the donath company in wonsees knew it. In any case, 14 days beforehand, contrary to planning, they managed in an exemplary manner to put the spire with the cross and weathercock back on high up on the 27 meter high tower. These had been previously blessed by pastor gerhard mockel in front of the house of worship.
The repair and restoration work was remarkable. Since the end of april, the wooden beams of the tower have had to be completely renovated, replaced in some areas and repaired by the carpenters in the interest of the preservation of historical monuments and above all with regard to stability. Now the crossbeam is firmly fixed to the masonry, and the rafters are once again stable in the so-called imperial stem, in which the tower crown has been reinserted. Three steel rings placed beforehand hold the construction firmly in place. The tower ornament with the sphere has three cross beams and at the top the weathercock, which can now rotate again and shows the modscheiders the wind direction. Firmly anchored is the cross, which is aligned in north-south direction. The 2.10 meter high spire and the sphere underneath were straightened, sandblasted, galvanized and finally re-gilded by the company bayreuther turmuhren. Until the assembly on the top of the tower, everything was still tightly packed in absorbent cotton, so that no sweat can get to the gold and it can shine far into the jura landscape. In the sphere below, a document cartridge was inserted into which renovation documents from 1982, the current issue of the newspaper, a report by pastor gerhard mockel and the renovation concept of architect georg schilling as well as euro coins worth 3.88 euros were placed, i.E. One of each coin. In order to keep these documents for a long time, the master of the tower clock company has soldered them on the spot.
The total cost for the renovation of the wooden structures of the spire, the new roofing with natural slate and the spire with the new dials of the tower clock, according to architect georg schilling, so far amounts to about 173 000 euro. After the descent from the lofty heights, drinks and barbecue were served to all those present. Church caretaker anita rauch thanked all those involved, especially the carpenters, who carried out the much more complicated and time-consuming renovation work on the historic wooden construction of the spire quickly and in an exemplary manner in just three months. Andreas matzold, who supervised the carpentry work as a structural engineer, was also very committed to the project. The fact that all the bells rang out during the small celebration, to the delight of all the people of modscheid, fitted in with the picture of the successful tower renovation.
