Frequently Asked Questions
How do I edit my website when it’s all finished?
Once we finish your project we’ll sit down and record a 1-hour training session showing you the in’s and out’s of your exact site. Also, Squarespace has a ton of help tutorials and great customer support. Squarespace is super user friendly and I’m confident my clients can handle it after our time together. If you feel you’ll need ongoing maintenance, we can chat about that as well.
I have an old website, how do I switch to the new one?
I’m here to help guide you through the process. It can seem like a lot going on, but I promise with the right help, it’s not. I design your site with a trial setup through Squarespace or other platform, which is totally separate from your current site. You will keep your old site up and running until we are ready to make the switch. If you have your own domain name already I will help with getting that moved over to your new site. I can also assist in getting your old content transferred, if needed.
How will my site look on a mobile device?
Every website we build is mobile responsive and will work beautifully on desktops, Ipads, cell phones and about any other device you can pull it up on. To make the process easiest, we design the desktop version first, and then finalize details within the mobile version so that your users get the same function and feel no matter their device.
What if I don’t have my website text and pictures ready yet?
The first step in working together is a chat and some client homework, so you’ll have a good head start on your wording by working through this at the beginning of the process. When we begin to design your site much of it will be filled with “placeholder” text and images so that we can get a feel for where it will all go. If you need help with copywriting I can point you to some good free resources for that, or you can choose to add-on our copywriting assistance for a fee.
What project management software do you use?
If you’ve never used Asana before you’ll be sold after one look. It’s free, easy to use, and if you’re new to it we’ve got a video that walks you through getting started. It will be like our digital home base, keeping all our discussions and to-dos in one organized and convenient place. It’s quick to check things off the to-do list. Once we finalize the project you’ll have access to your client area, this is where we’ll put your links, design files, etc. for safe keeping, so that you can go there and download anything you need, anytime you need.
How do we get started?
After you submit a contact form, we’ll schedule a quick chat (video or phone, whatever’s easiest) to see if we’ll be a good fit for each other. If we decide it’s a go, we’ll send over an invoice for the deposit so you can officially claim your project dates. The deposit is 50% due upon booking, and the remainder 50% is due upon completion.
Questions About Template Designs
Why are these pre-made templates and not DIY ones?
To be honest, it’s not that you couldn’t do it. Squarespace is a simple platform for many. But if you can save weeks of your time, and spend that making your own clients happy, and making money, why would you spend it on something you’re not good at. We believe wholeheartedly in doing what you’re best at. Offering pre-made websites, where we build the entire demo for you, just seems like the right move.
What is Squarespace?
Squarespace is an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop web design platform, which is the home for your entire website, hosting, shop, blog, everything! Squarespace has amazing customer service and plenty of help videos and articles for about any scenario.
Why do you recommend Squarespace over other website builders?
Squarespace is not only user-friendly, but it also offers amazing features like responsive design for mobile viewing, an easy to use drag-and-drop builder, amazing help support, and a library of written and video tutorials. They’ve been around for years and have tons of integrations with your favorite other apps and platforms. Ease of use for you and converting designs for your business, win win.
Why does it take a week for me to get my website template?
Squarespace is different from other platforms in that there’s not a quick “copy” or “download” for a template. The upside to this is you get our careful attention to detail while we copy elements and build the entire site for you. It only takes us a few days compared to the weeks and months it might take you.
Do you offer support after I purchase?
After you purchase a template you’ll receive a getting started guide, unique to your specific template. This guide will help you plan your images and text for the site, as well as videos of how to make edits to the site. For help after the launch of your site, Squarespace has an amazing technical support team and a vault of videos, tutorials, and more.
How much does Squarespace cost?
You can pay for Squarespace monthly or yearly, depending upon your budget. The plan we recommend is the business plan and it’s about $200/yr. Like a lot of online programs/software, the annual subscription is a better deal. If you’ve been paying separate hosting fees, Squarespace will become your new host, which means you’re not paying that every month to another company.
Can you add in all my text and images for me?
Following our setup guide and template customization videos are the quickest to get your content into your site. However, we do offer this service as an add-on. Please select this option at checkout if you’d like us to insert your text and images for you.
Can I have a shop and a blog on Squarespace?
Yes and Yes! Each template has the ability to add a shop and blog rather the design itself has a demo for that page or not. Squarespace has amazing resources for getting your shop and blog set up and there’s not an additional fee to use either feature. You can add additional features by using tags, categories, and more to your blog posts and shop items. We love Squarespace because you can easily feature blog posts and products throughout your entire site, by category or other filters. Squarespace has amazing resources for getting your shop functionality set up as well.
I’m nervous Squarespace won’t have enough features for me, isn’t WordPress better?
Our favorite analogy for Squarespace is that it’s kinda like Apple vs Android debate. You’ll have an easy-to-maintain product with a dedicated support and development group. WordPress and “open source” platforms often compare to Android in that there are limitless options for customization, however, you’re dependent on lots of random Joe’s in their basements keeping their code in check, maintaining plugins, etc. We much prefer the “tight-knit” group behind Squarespace.
